Today’s Love Spell is a charm taken from the book A Collection of Magical Secrets edited by Stephen Skinner and David Rankine, and translated by Paul Harry Barron. As mentioned in previous posts in this series, the material in this small book constitutes a Book of Secrets found bound with a Key of Solomon manuscript (which was used by the authors as part of their ground-breaking The Veritable Key of Solomon). It shows just how the lines between “high” and “low” magic was blurred even in the late 1700′s and provides a wonderful collection of magical workings, including a section on spells, but also techniques for dream incubation, absent healing and many other techniques – and is a work worth studying if you are looking for new ways and inspirations for performing magical work, whether for self-knowledge or practical purposes.
As with all the spells in this series, they are provided for historical illustration; and they may not therefore adhere to modern ideas of magical ethics.
